Mapping Ephemeralities

‘Sensibility and the Shifting Perception of Place,’ August 2015, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil—workshop conducted as part of—Mapping Ephemeralities/Ephemeral Cartographies

, organized by the Commission on Art and Cartography and the International Cartographic Association. I introduced a method of research by which participants (designers, artists, landscape architects, cartographers) would uncover invisibles in the Maracaña neighborhood where we were based. I shared a list poem from Anne Carson and examples of my own work that translate list data into poetic visual experiences of place. I asked the participants to write a list poem of mythic spaces that they encountered as they walked the streets of the neighborhood.
